VOCAL MUSIC – (ACADEMIC)
Whether you have never studying singing, enjoy singing alone or along with others, this introductory course provides students the opportunity to learn about the process of singing, and the anatomy of human voice and how it works. Singers will learn music literacy, healthy vocal production, how to care for the voice, and building healthy rehearsal habits. VOCAL MUSIC – (HONORS) This level of study requires self-discipline and commitment to practice at home. Students will learn more advanced singing techniques and music literacy as well as how to communicate more effectively through song and sing with expression and attention to detail. Placement in honors voice requires participation at an exemplary level of enthusiasm and commitment. Honors Level Students are expected to take the course both fall and spring semesters. |

Knightdale Women's Chorale / SSAA (Intermediate / Proficient)
This ensemble is open to all Upper Level Treble voices students who have an interest in SSA/ Treble ensemble singing, building a strong voice and learning how to become an independent musician. Sight singing skills are helpful, but not required. Extra rehearsals are rare, but occasionally are at times held after school. You will be notified in plenty of time before a mandatory after school rehearsal is scheduled to that you may make plans for alternative transportation.

All Voice Types- Spring Semester

This ensemble is designed specifically to assist the young singer make the transition to the high school choral environment. The voice matures at an incredibly fast pace between ages 14 and 18. Singers are encouraged to attend choral performances and to attend some mandatory after-school rehearsals for special events. Other performance opportunities are occasionally provided and are optional. Students enrolled in this class are “travel eligible” as an alternate provided they are enrolled in the applicable semester a trip is planned.

Mixed Vocal Ensemble - Fall Semester
*No Prerequisite required
This Tenor/ Bass ensemble continues to work on developing the voice, the ear and overall musicianship. Singers continue to demonstrate steady growth and begin to explore more detailed musicianship characteristics. Students should be able to sight read at a level 2 by the time they enroll for this course. Some after school activities are encouraged but not required. Major appearances at MPA's and Spring Concert is required as part of this co-curricular class. This class is "travel eligible" but is not required.

This course is designed to meet the needs for the proficient or advanced high school singer. Students with experience in a choral ensemble or singing solo repertoire are encouraged to audition. The course is designed to specifically meet the needs of the solo singer, however, may at times work as an ensemble. Students should be able to sight sing at a level 3 or higher upon entering this course as it is "performance heavy" and will deal with advanced performance skills. Transfer students from another school, may schedule an audition to determine skill level and sight reading ability prior to placement. This class regularly participates in outside performance obligations as well as in school appearances for Awards Day and Graduation Ceremonies. Extra rehearsals are rare, but occasionally are at times held after school. You will be notified in plenty of time before a mandatory after school rehearsal is scheduled to that you may make plans for alternative transportation. Extended travel opportunities may be available and students are highly encouraged to participate in fundraising through the Knightdale Choral Booster Organization.
